About Civil Defence Canada
Civil Defence Canada is a Canadian non-governmental organization (NGO) seeking to actively promote civil defence principles in Canada. Heavily inspired by the Finnish Total Defence model and whole-of-society approaches to defence, Civil Defence Canada educates citizens about civil defence, and helps them both organize, and lobby the federal and provincial governments for heightened levels of civil readiness and emergency preparedness.

Misconceptions About Civil Defence
There are significant misconceptions associated with the promotion of Canadian Civil Defence because of the fact that certain sub-spectrums of the populations, notably the Canadian militia and sovereign citizens movements, have historically made use of the term “civil defence.”
Civil Defence Canada must clearly note that it does not share the ideological affinities of these groups, and is not engaged in the organization of any armed, kinetic, military or paramilitary activity beyond that explicitly authorized by the laws of Canada and its Provinces and Territories.
His Majesty the King is the ruler of Canada is the legitimate ruler of Canada, in the context of our constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, and Civil Defence Canada will not tolerate any breaking of Canadian law amongst its members.
We also condemn all forms of hate – to include racism, xenophobia, ageism, ableism, sexism, homophobia, etc.
Our group is inclusive specifically because a whole-of-society approach to Canadian Civil Defence requires that every citizen, permanent resident, and person otherwise loyal to Canada participate, in their own way, in the defence of our beautiful country.
